About
C.U.R.E. (Common Unity Reaching Everyone) was founded in 2001. Based in the unincorporated area of South Los Angeles called the West Athens area. The West Athens area has no major industries, businesses and is an area with high unemployment and infested with rival gangs in every area of the community.
Co founded by Cameron Bonner and Reynaldo "Wiz" Reaser, C.U.R.E.'S mission was to stop the killings in the area of this South Los Angeles community. Helen Keller Park in the West Athens area was once a major problem because the Raymond Ave Crips Gang adopted the park as theirs. For years the park was an extremely unsafe place for parents to send their children. Law enforcement saw the park as a violent wasteland. A park once full of life and little league baseball games became a killing field. C.U.R.E. started planning events in the park but first Cameron and Reynaldo had to find a common ground with the gangs to end the violence. One by one they spoke to the gang leaders to ask them to give the park back to the children. Wiz set out to stop the 10 year war between once allies and now enemies, the Under Ground Crips. This peace agreement succeeded and rebuilt a brotherhood from both communities. This peace agreement has held to today. As C.U.R.E. began to bring positive activities to Helen Keller Park, parents began to trust our work and started sending their children back.
