About C.U.R.E.

In 2001 C.U.R.E. held a community softball game at Helen Keller Park to celebrate the truce between 3 major gangs who at the time were at war.  C.U.R.E was able to bring these leaders to a meeting and that culminated in a longstanding reign of peace.  In fact, the day of the even 5 major gangs and 700 people attended without incident.  The event was sponsored by US VETS and New Directions who were the cooks, umpires and Big Brothers of this landmark event.

Our partnership with BAFTA/LA brought the groundbreaking BAFTA/LA Screening room to Helen Keller  Park.  Since its inception, BAFTA/LA have screened over a 16 films, brought international stars of stage, screen and television to our park, that include, Gavin Hood, Elijah Kelley, The Rock , Ali Macgraw, Tony Bill, Jeff Silver, Gavin Scott to name but a few.  Our goal was to provide positive images and stories to our youth to bring hope of a better future to their lives.  We now have the only micro movie theater in all of the County.   Through BAFTA/LA, our youth will be introduced to possible careers in the film industry through their relationships with other student film programs.

Through our partnership with BAFTA/LA we were fortunate enough to meet Julie Coyne of the Bicycle Club Casino.   Through an extremely generous and deeply appreciated donation of 6 computers the youth of Helen Keller Park are now able to participate in after school educational  programs at their own community park.

Our recent Common Unity Breakfast at Helen Keller Park sponsored by C.U.R.E. and Project Youth and US VETS successfully proved to our community that this past war zone is now a safe and productive center for their kids and families.  We were able to bring attention to the programs that we are planning in collaboration with LA County Parks and Recreation.

Athens Park Bloods are now brothers of the Raymond Crips. These two sets were once bitter enemies but now they work together bringing other Crips and Bloods sets to the table for peace. February 2007 both factions met at Deputy Gregory James after school program where we all counsel and mentor school aged children who are on probation. Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Museum of Tolerance, was the witness of the signing of the peace agreement named “The No Child Harmed Agreement” authored by Gary “Nugget” Robinson the gang coordinator for C.U.R.E, and signed Reynaldo”Wiz” Reaser and Keith “Kalicoat” McComb

How 'Bout Them Cowboys!!!

The Cowboys family needs your help. This is our first season in the league and we must provide new equipment for every youth who signs up. Too many of our at risk youth lack the funds to join sports programs or parental support to help steer the kids into great support systems and away from hanging on the streets and joining local gangs. We have a few ways to reach out and help these youths from the comfort of your own home. You can pledge to sponsor a child for the season. or you can sponsor your favorite number! Any child the gets the number will become your instant pen pal. You'll be able to follow the child through the season and you can help him along the way. Lastly, you can become a sponsor of the team and get your company logo on our webpage, programs and all other items that feature the Cowboys team. If you just want to donate a few dollars to our cause please feel free to do so.
